Almond Blossoms

-Made by Vincent Van Gogh in 1890

-Held in the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam, Netherlands

-Made with oil paint on canvas

About:

Vincent Van Gogh was born on March 30, in 1863. He was educated in boarding and secondary schools but abandoned his education. Van Gogh always had a strong connection to nature which made him take interest in art. At 16 he worked at an art dealership and at 27 he started to create art. Van Gogh was self taught, through art books and drawing examples he learned to master drawing and painting skills. I chose Van Gogh because I was drawn to his style of art and the way he interpreted nature.

Final

Plan:

-Build pot with coils

-Shape and carve out pot shape

-Attach branches

-Shape branches in different forms

-Take thin clay and make flowers

-Attach flowers onto branches

-Glaze

For this piece I used smooth sculpture and the glazes_. For this, I wanted to make the 3D almond blossoms from Van Goghs almond blossoms. I think I did well on the form of the pot, which came with a lot of trial and error. I also tried to make the blossoms thin so they looked like real almond petals. If I were to make this piece again I would spend a lot more time on making the branches more realistic and give them more texture. I would also make the pot thinner so it would look a little neater.
